You Used Worse Abuses Than a Mere ‘Crook’ For Arun Jaitley: Ram Jethmalani to Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, July 29: In a letter written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani accused Kejriwal of using worse words than ‘crook’ for Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley during conversations with him. In the letter posted online on his blog, Jethmalani wrote, “When Arun Jaitley filed the first suit and criminal case, you naturally sought my services. Ask your conscience how many times you used worse abuses than a mere ‘crook’. You have hundred times asked me to teach this crook a lesson.”

The development comes at a time when the Chief Minister briefed the Delhi High Court that he had not asked Jethmalani to use objectionable words against Jaitley.

Noteworthy, Jethmalani was under attack from Arun Jaitley who filed a defamation case against Kejriwal earlier this year for using the word in the courtroom. However, the charges were denied in an affidavit submitted in Delhi High Court by Arvind Kejriwal. The affidavit read, “Neither the defendant (Kejriwal) nor the counsel (Anupam Srivastava) briefing the senior counsel (Jethmalani) gave instructions to the senior counsel to use the objectionable words on May 17, 2017.” [Read: Ram Jethmalani Quits as Arvind Kejriwal’s Counsel in Arun Jaitley Defamation Case, Asks to Settle Rs 2 Crore Dues]

However, after the filing of another civil defamation case against Kejriwal by Arun Jaitley, Jethmalani had quit as Kejriwal’s counsel. The senior lawyer had also asked the Delhi chief minister to settle his fees amounting to more than Rs two crore.

On May 17, the recording of Jaitley’s statement in a Rs 10 crore civil defamation suit, filed by him against Kejriwal and other AAP functionaries, witnessed high drama as the Union minister objected to the use of a word against him by the veteran lawyer representing the chief minister. When the Finance Minister asked Jethmalani whether the word was used as per instructions from Kejriwal, he replied in affirmative.
