This semi-high-speed train can reach speeds of up to 180 km/h, significantly reducing travel time between key cities.

Vande Bharat Express: India’s fastest train

Currently, Vande Bharat Express is the fastest train in India. The super-fast train has a top speed of 180 km/h, but is designed to operate at 160 km/h on the tracks for safety reasons. The Vande Bharat Express cuts the travel time by 15 percent or 4-5 hours.

2nd Fastest Train in India: Tejas Express

  • Indian Railways debuted the Tejas Express in 2017, a semi-high-speed, fully air-conditioned train.
    The train is one of three semi-high-speed trains operating in India
  • It has contemporary onboard amenities and automatic doors (the others being the Vande Bharat Express and the Gatimaan Express).
  • Between Mumbai and Goa, the train travels 551 kilometres in 8.5 hours.
  • It also operates on two additional routes, one from Lucknow to Anand Vihar terminal and the other from New Delhi to Chandigarh.
  • The Tejas Express has an average speed of 110 km/h and a top speed of 162 km/h.
