The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday attached the property of an alleged terror associate in Sopore town of Baramulla district of north Kashmir. According to a J-K Police spokesperson, a house belonging to a “terror associate”, identified as Abdul Rashid Najar, was attached in the apple town under relevant provisions of Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

“Police in Sopore attached a single storied residential house belonging to a terror associate Abdul Rashid Najar son of Abdul Ahad Najar resident of Naseem Bagh Krankshivan Colony Sopore along with land measuring 01 Kanal and 01 marla falling under khasra No. 237/1 in estate Amargarh, Sopore,” the spokesperson said.

Terming it as a “significant crackdown on terror associates” in the area, an officer said Najar’s house was attached after obtaining the necessary approvals from competent authorities.

He said the action was carried out in a case under FIR No. 307/2023, registered under Sections 13, 18, 18B, 19, 20, 23, 39 UA(P) Act, 7/25 Arms Act, and 4/5 Explosives Substances at Sopore Police Station.

“This action reaffirms the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to combat terrorism and disrupt the support structures that enables these nefarious activities,” the police said, adding that targeting the assets of terror associates, the authorities aim to undermine their ability to fund and facilitate terrorist operations.

“The attachment of the property is a part of the ongoing efforts to choke the financial and logistical support for terrorist organizations and their enablers,” they said.

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in terror-related incidents in the first part of this year after a brief lull in the past few years after the 2019 abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state.
