New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha and 100 other villagers were arrested on Tuesday for taking out Navratri march through a restricted route in Hazaribagh’s Mahudi area. Talking to leading news agency IANS, Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Bhim Sen said, “Some security men were injured when Sinha’s supporters pelted them with stones in Mahudi area at Barkagao. Tear gas shells were used to disperse the mob.”

As per the reports, the former Union Minister, party legislator Manish Jaiswal and his supporters had come to Mahudi village to take out a procession on the eve of Ram Navami. The district administration stopped them from proceeding further, after which he staged a dharna.

Last year curfew was promulgated in Hazaribagh town and in surrounding areas after two groups of people clashed, torched shops and pelted stones at policemen injuring several of them on the last day of the Ram Navami. The clashes had erupted after Muslim villagers objected Ram Navami procession on passing through certain parts.

Mobs had set ablaze seven houses and torched vehicles passing by a nearby highway. One person was also reportedly died in the violence then but the police had said the death was unrelated to the communal clashes.
