Ludhiana Gangrape: A shocking incident of “revenge-rape” has come to the light from Punjab’s Ludhiana where a married mother of two, was allegedly gangraped by a man and three members of his family after the victim’s brother eloped with the daughter of the main accused.
According to the police, four members of a family– all residents of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly gangraped a married woman to avenge the family’s perceived “humiliation” after the daughter of one of the accused eloped with the victim’s brother.
The four men also filmed the vile act on the mobile phones and threatened to post on social media sites if she dared to approach the police, they said.
A senior police official said the incident occurred on May 1 earlier this year, but the victim, a mother of two children was too traumatised from her ordeal and scared of threats from the accused and did not report the heinous crime for over 3 months.
“It was only after she recovered and stabilised from the trauma of the alleged gangrape that she approached the police for filing the complaint”, they said.
In her complaint, the woman revealed that daughter of the main accused, Ravinder, had eloped with her brother in April this year.
She said the four accused stormed her house on May 1 in search of the couple, and after not finding them there, the accused intimidated the victim and allegedly gangraped her to seek vengeance for the “humiliation”.
The accused also recorded the act on their mobile phone and threatened to share the video on social media and make it viral, she alleged.
Based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered at Tibba Road Police Station against the four accused — Ravinder Singh, his brother Varinder Singh, son Aman Singh and another associate Santosh Singh, police said.
Further investigation in the case is underway, they added.
