Maha Kumbh Mela 2025: Security arrangements tighten in Prayagraj, Special train services to begin from Jan 17
The authorities are using high-tech security with over 340 experts monitoring crowd movements with AI technology at key locations. Thousands of CCTV cameras and drones are installed for surveillance.
Uttar Pradesh: With just a week to go before the Maha Kumbh Mela begins, thousands of devotees, along with sadhus and saints from all over India and beyond, have started arriving in Prayagraj. Amid the vibrant crowd, the Naga sadhus, with their distinctive attire and spiritual practices, are drawing a lot of attention. Authorities are ensuring everything is in place for the safety of everyone.
Safety arrangements
According to the Press Information Bureau’s press release dated on 29 December 2024, the authorities are using high-tech security with over 340 experts monitoring crowd movements with AI technology at key locations. Thousands of CCTV cameras and drones are installed for surveillance. Facial recognition will be used at entry points to make sure only registered people are entering. four special fire trucks, called Articulating Water Towers (AWTs) equipped with advanced thermal cameras have been deployed in the region. In addition to it, underwater drones are being used for safety at the Sangam area, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet. These drones will monitor the water and help keep everyone safe.
NDRF conducting regular mock drills
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also preparing for emergencies. On Monday, the team held a mock drill at Arail Ghat to practice rescue operations for accidents, especially in the water. NDRF Deputy Inspector General MK Sharma told ANI that the team is fully equipped to handle any situation, including water rescues, chemical spills, or radiation emergencies.
Announcement of special train services
To help pilgrims travelling from Una to Prayagraj, the Railway authorities have announced running of special train services from January 17. According to PTI reports, the first train will leave Una at 10:05 pm and reach Prayagraj the next day at 6:00 pm. The train will have 5 sleeper, 10 general, and one AC three-tier coach. The prices for sleeper coaches will be Rs 620, and AC three-tier tickets will cost Rs 1,670. More trains will run on January 20, January 25, February 9, February 15, and February 23 respectively, stopping at several key stations along the way. These trains are scheduled to help the millions of people coming for the event.
