Malaysia Airline Flight Returns To Hyderabad After Engine Suffers Technical Snag Mid-air

The Malaysia Airlines issued a statement and said that the aircraft safely landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 03:21 AM local time and all passengers and crew disembarked safely.

Hyderabad: A Kuala Lumpur-bound Malaysia Airlines flight which took off from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Thursday returned to the airport after the pilot noticed a technical snag in the engine mid-air. Malaysia Airlines issued a statement and said that the aircraft safely landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 03:21 AM local time and all passengers and crew disembarked safely. The airline also stated that the affected passengers will be reallocated to other flights for their continued journey and the aircraft is currently on ground for further inspection. Safety remains of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines.

“Malaysia Airlines confirms that flight MH199 from Hyderabad to Kuala Lumpur on 20 June 2024 returned to Hyderabad due to an issue with one of the engines during climb after take-off. The aircraft safely landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 03:21am local time; all passengers and crew disembarked safely. Affected passengers will be reallocated to other flights for their continued journey. The aircraft is currently on ground for further inspection. Safety remains of utmost importance to Malaysia Airlines,” Malaysia Airlines said in a statement.


A video recorded by a passenger inside the plane showed sparks coming from one of the flight’s engines.

The airport in a statement said that Flight MH 199 took off at 12:45 am but made a turnaround and landed at Hyderabad airport after the snag was detected. The flight was scheduled to take off at 12:15 AM.

One of the passenger named Srishti Gupta, who was on the flight, described her experience as “scary” and alleged that the airline did not provide any redressal for a refund or compensation to the affected passengers.

“We heard a blast 20 minutes into the flight. The flight suddenly shook and we could feel the plane was slowing down. The food, which was served to us, was taken away and we were asked to put on our seat belts. We were told that we are turning back to Hyderabad,” Gupta was quoted as saying by India Today.
