From 2016, get birth, death certificates online within 3 days

The project which is about to start from the new year 2016 come January 1, will first cover all public hospitals, including civic run maternity homes and tertiary care centers. The program will slowly expand to all private hospitals.An individual only has to log onto the BMC website, and enter either the receipt number or details of their parents to access the certificate. It can then be suitably printed out.

Mumbai,24 December : In a move that can save a lot of time, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) will provide an access to birth and death certificates within a period of three days through an online website.While it will definitely spare residents the trouble of  visiting their ward office personally to attain the certificate, it will consequently also help in speeding up the entire process.

 “Earlier, a hospital would send us a report after a birth or if there was any death registered with them. After the report would reach the health office, a check would be done to ensure all facts are right and only then the certificate would be issued by ward office,” said Dr Padmaja Keskar, Executive Health Officer at BMC, Indian Express reported.(ALSO READ: ‘India ranks 3rd in Asia when it comes to ransomware attacks’).

While the move will definitely ease a family’s trouble to personally visit their ward office to attain a certificate, it will consequently also speed up the whole process.

Certificates is believed to be available within a period of three days. After the verification process, a copy of the certificate will be sent to the applicant’s inbox, which can be downloaded according to their convenience. There are no limitations on the number of copies each individual can take.A one-day training programme will also be held for employees of eight wards.
