Nepal Protests: The Finance Minister of Nepal, Bishnu Paudel, aged 65, was allegedly chased by a massive crowd in the streets of Kathmandu. The minister was reportedly kicked and manhandled brutally. A video has surfaced on social media platforms showing a large crowd of people trying to chase him.

This comes in the wake of ongoing Nepal protests, which started due to the government’s ban on social media platforms. The residents of Nepal demanded the lifting of the ban and the handling of corruption. However, the applications went online due to the public outrage on Tuesday.

What’s the video about?

In the recent video being circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter), huge numbers of people can be seen running and chasing the Finance Minister of Nepal, Bishnu Paudel. The minister was allegedly hit and kicked by a youngster, soon after which, the 65-year-old Paudel stood back to run away from the crowd. He was pursued by the infuriated mob again.

How are people expressing the outrage?

The general public in Nepal is highly enraged by the current government. The Gen-Z-led protests began on Monday when the government banned 26 social media platforms. The applications soon went online due to public outrage.

Initially, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned after the demands of youth protesters due to the most fatal crackdown that claimed the lives of 19 individuals. Soon after the resignation of the PM, one of the parliamentary buildings was breached by some persons and set on fire. The residence of Oli was also set on fire in Bhaktapur’s Balkot area.

How’s the situation now?

The spokesperson of Kathmandu Police, Shekhar Khanal, talking to AFP, mentioned that many people have neglected to follow the curfew imposed on Tuesday, and several streets and regions witnessed cases of fire and attacks.
