New Delhi, Jan 16: The Karni Sena, an organisation of the Rajput community, on Tuesday demanded a nationwide ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film ‘Padmaavat’. “Main baar baar desh ke Pradhan Mantri aur Mukhya Mantriyon ko anurodh karta hun ki hamari bhavnaon ko samjha jaaye. (I am requesting the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of all states to understand our feelings) We want nothing less than a nation-wide ban on the movie,” Kalvi stated. Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Haryana became the third state after Gujarat and Rajasthan to impose a ban on the movie.
Notably, Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ has been mired in controversy since its shooting started. Activists of the Karni Sena, besides other fringe groups, have been protesting against the movie, claiming the film ‘distorts’ historical facts.
