Though Congress is eyeing power in Punjab, the debutant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also hoping to form government in the frontier state. SAD-BJP has been in power in the state for the last 10 years, while the AAP contested assembly elections in the state for the first time. The fate of 1,145 candidates, including 81 women and a transgender, will be decided on Saturday. The exit poll survey by various news channels predicted retreat for the  Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance in Punjab with only  single-digit seats out of 117. While Congress party and Aam Aadmi Party  were said to be in a neck-and-neck finish as per the post poll survey. But Akali Dal president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is upbeat about the alliance returning to power for a third consecutive term. This year Punjab recorded a high voter turnout of 77.4 percent on the polling (February 4). Also, the female voters in Punjab took the lead with 78.14 percent turnout, compared to 76.69 per cent by males. This year there were  1,05,03,108 male voters and 93,75,546 female voters out of the 1,98,78,654 registered electors in Punjab on February 4.
