A woman in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir allegedly murdered her 8-day-old infant daughter by leaving her out in a dried out pond under direct sunlight.
Jammu Kashmir News: In a horrifying incident fuelled by marital troubles, a woman in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, allegedly left her eight-day-old newborn daughter to die in dry pond under directly to “get even” and “settle scores” with her husband.
According to the police, the woman abandoned her newborn child in a nearly dry pond which resulted in the infant’s death due to heat, thirst, and hunger. The incident came to the light on Sunday when some locals found the body of the infant lying in a dried out pond in Kadma Prat village in Sunderbani tehsil of Rajouri, police said.
The locals promptly informed the cops about the shocking discovery and the child’s body was later recovered by a police team who sent it for a post-mortem investigation.
A senior official said the woman, Sharifa Begum, committed the vile act in an effort to frame her husband, Mohammad Iqbal, by pinning the blame for the infant’s murder on him.

He said that Sharifa had accused the slain infant’s father of the crime, however, investigation revealed that Iqbal had left for Kashmir on some business when the incident took place.
“The revelation that the father was out of town at the time of the crime led investigating officers to focus on the mother, who was later detained for questioning,” police said, adding that, during interrogation, the woman confessed to killing her newborn by leaving her out under the scorching sun in a dry pond.
“She broke down during interrogation and confessed to the crime,” an official said.
As per the police, Sharifa told the cops that she had a heated argument with her husband, Iqbal, and in her deranged bid to “settle the score” with him, she killed the 8-day-old baby by leaving her alone in a dry pond under direct sunlight and later tried to pin the blame on him.
They said a case of murder and other offences have been registered against Sharifa at the Sunderbani police station and further investigations are going on, they said.
