Bengaluru Bike Taxis: Uber, Ola, and Rapido have once again resumed their bike taxi services in Bengaluru on Thursday, two months after they had to suspend operations. Now, commuters in the city can book bike taxis. The resume comes after a two-month ban on the bike taxis, which was implemented by the Karnataka Government on June 16.

In light of this, commuters were being highly affected. Many people relied heavily on the bike taxis. As a result of the ban, people had no other alternative but to pay the exorbitant prices charged by the auto rickshaws and taxis.

When were the bike taxis banned in Bengaluru?

The bike taxis have remained banned for more than two months in Bengaluru. The orders were given by the Karnataka Government on June 16. Since then, people have been paying high amounts for other transportation means for daily commuting.

What did the High Court say?

Companies like Rapido and Uber kept their bike operations suspended until Wednesday in Bengaluru. They approached the Karnataka High Court, and the appeal’s hearing was postponed to September 22. However, the court mentioned the state government should consider the decision of banning bike taxis once again. It even stated that regulations can be brought, but banning these vehicles is stressful for commuters who rely heavily on them.

What are the reactions of state ministers?

After the High Court’s stance of reconsidering the decision on Wednesday, Rapido and Uber started their operations. This led to infuriating the concerned state transport ministers a little.

Ramalinga Reddy, the Karnataka Transport Minister, highlighted that no official permission for resuming the operations has been granted to the aggregators yet. He went on to explain that the court has asked the government to find ways to bring regulations into the operations, but no direct orders have been issued.

What’s next after the ministers’ reactions?

Until now, Rapido and Uber have not issued any public statements regarding resuming their bike operations in Bengaluru. The same is awaited along with the High Court’s hearing to take place on September 22.
