This Friday (May 12), Amitabh Bachchan will return to the big screen as Subhash Nagre in Ram Gopal Varma’s third instalment of the political drama franchise, Sarkar.  It was nine years back that we saw Sr Bachchan in this role, so naturally his fans are quite looking forward to see him back in this avatar. But will Sarkar 3, that also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Jackie Shroff, Yami Gautam and Amit Sadh be able to make good amount of money at the box office? Considering the film is releasing just two weeks after the release of Baahubali: The Conclusion, which as we all know has been dominating the box office right from the very first day. So we decided to get in touch with our trade expert Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) to get a clear picture.

Ask him what are his expectations from Sarkar 3 purely on the basis of the box office collections and he says, “It’s a franchise and it’s a franchise done well in the first two editions. And the very fat that you are seeing Mr Bachchan in a role like this after a long time, it is kind of exciting for the fans. But let’s just face it. Baahubali 2 was released just two weeks back. Trust me when I say this, there are lots of people in our country, who cannot afford to watch more than one movie a month or maybe one movie a quarter. And all those people have exhausted their money on Baahubali right now. So coming within two weeks of Baahubali, will not only harm Sarkar 3, but any film. Having said that, the other two films that are releasing with Sarkar 3 are Meri Pyaari Bindu and Alien: Covenant, both of which thankfully cater to different audiences as compared to what Sarkar 3 does. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that Sarkar 3 does a good business along with the other two films.” ALSO READSHOCKING! So what is the kind of money that Sarkar 3 will earn over the first weekend? “I expect it to make somewhere between Rs 12 crore to Rs 15 crore over the first weekend. And as far as the lifetime collections go, I expect it to be between Rs 30 crore to Rs 35 crore,” adds Akshaye.

Akshaye also said that the film will have a decent occupancy in the first show. “Sarkar 3 is expected to release in over 1500 to 1600 screens. And I see it opening with a reasonably good occupancy, let’s just say somewhere between 25 to 30 per cent,” concludes Rathi.
