Section 144 Imposed In Noida; Borders Sealed For 24 Hours As Farmers Plan Protest Outside Parliament Today

Farmers Protest: Noida authorities have imposed section 144 and have closed all borders for 24 hours ahead of the farmers protest, who are going to march towards the Parliament, demanding hike in land compensation.

Noida: Farmers, hailing from Noida, are all set to hold a massive protest outside the Parliament House on Thursday in the national capital, demanding hike in land compensation and better rehabilitation facilities against the land acquired by the Uttar Pradesh Government and for the development in the city. In view of the massive protest, the Noida Police have imposed section 144 in the city and all borders have also been sealed for 24 hours to stop the protesters from reaching the parliament. According to Noida: DIG, Addl. CP (L&O), Shivhari Meena additional security has been deployed at all the borders to stop any untoward situation. “Section 144 has been imposed & all the borders have been sealed for 24 hours. Heavy security deployment at all the borders. Arrangements have been made so that the people do not face any trouble. Security has been heightened. We are in talks with the farmers…All the vehicles are being checked..,” Meena said.

The farmers have announced that they will enter Delhi on tractors, and other vehicles and try to reach the Parliament. They have planned to gather at Mahamaya flyover around Thursday afternoon and march towards Delhi.

As protesting farmers are planning to use the Delhi-Noida link road, the police has taken measured to stop any untoward situation during the agitation march.

“We have done arrangements for the protest march that will begin from Noida’s Mahamaya flyover and go to Parliament House in Delhi. The Uttar Pradesh government is not addressing our demand for 10% of total land acquired for residential purposes, 64.7% hiked land compensation, permission for commercial activities on residential plots and other benefits,” said Bharatriya Kisan Ekta Sangh leader Sukhbir Yadav.

It is noteworthy that, in September last year, the farmers ended the protest following the Noida authority’s assurance that their demands will be fulfilled over the next few months. However, they resumed the protest on December 18 after the state government was not addressing their demands.

The farmers hailing from Noida, Greater Noida and other areas has joined hands to intensify their protest. They alleged that the Noida authority acquired their land, develop it and then sell them for setting up industries and realty projects. The protestors also alleged that they have not received rehabilitation facilities and adequate compensation for their land.

According to Satish Pal, additional chief executive officer, Noida authority, the demands of the farmers have been sent to the government.

“We are looking into the issues of farmers and are allotting residential plots to them for their family use. We have sent their demands to the state government,” said Pal.
