Kumbakonam (TN) Apr 5 (PTI): A stolen ‘Maragatha Lingam’ idol, believed to be over a century old, has been recovered from two persons here, police said.
The duo were arrested last night near the Vittal temple in Govindapuram area and the idol was recovered from them, Pon Manickavel, IG of idol theft special wing,told reporters here.
The ownership of the idol was yet to be ascertained, he said.
The IG said that as per rules, if one holds such a deity, he should register it with the government to keep it.
The duo were later produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court, which remanded them to 15 days custody.
The idol was also produced before the court.
