Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart delivery update: As India’s booming platform economy races ahead on speed and scale, the workers powering it are hitting pause. Delivery and gig workers associated with major e-commerce, food delivery and home service platforms have announced an all-India strike on December 25 and December 31, drawing attention to what they describe as steadily worsening working conditions behind the convenience-driven business model.
Why are Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit planning all India strike?
Workers linked to platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart and other e-commerce aggregators say the strike is a protest against the denial of fair wages, safety, dignity and basic social security. Despite long hours and rising delivery targets, they allege that earnings have become unpredictable while risks on the road have increased.
Talking about the key demands, a key demand raised by the workers is the immediate withdrawal of “10-minute delivery” models. The delivery partners argue put extreme pressure on riders and compromise safety. Alongside this, delivery partners are calling for a fair and transparent wage structure that clearly defines pay and incentives.
What are the gig workers demanding?
The workers have also demanded an end to arbitrary ID blocking and penalties imposed without due process, a grievance they say leaves them suddenly without income. Improved safety measures, including proper safety gear, and mandatory rest breaks with reasonable working hours are also part of the charter of demands.

Other demands include assured and consistent work allocation without algorithmic discrimination, stronger app and technical support for routing and payment failures, and a work environment based on respect and dignity from platforms and customers alike. Crucially, the workers are seeking job security and social security benefits such as health insurance, accident coverage and pension provisions, highlighting the lack of long-term protection in gig-based employment.
