New Delhi, Mar 12: Telangana Legislative Council chairman Swamy Gaud was allegedly hit by a microphone by Congress MLC Komatireddy Venkata Reddy on the first day of budget session on Monday. As Governor ESL Narasimha started his speech, Congress MLAs started shouting slogans against the government. They flung papers and microphones in the air.
The MLAs said that the government ignored farmers’ and unemployment issues. The governor requested the protesting MLAs to be silent and maintain the sanctity of the House but they continued to raise slogans.
Some MLAs also tore copies of the speech and flung it in the air in protest. A few MLAs broke microphones and threw them towards the podium. One of the microphones reportedly hit Swamy Gaud who suffered injuries in the eye.
Gaud was first checked by a duty nurse at the Assembly and then taken to the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital for treatment. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) condemned the unruly and unprecedented behaviour and demanded the suspension of unruly Congress MLAs and MLCs along with a police case. However, the Congress denied all charges and alleged that their leaders were beaten up by Marshals.
