Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked Narendra Modi over the alleged negligence by the Rajasthan Police in the Alwar mob lynching case, terming it prime minister’s “brutal New India”.

The new blistering attack by Rahul comes amid reports of callousness of the Rajasthan Police, who delayed taking the lynching victim Rakbar Khan to the hospital by three hours, which apparently resulted in his death.

“Policemen in #Alwar took 3 hrs to get a dying Rakbar Khan, the victim of a lynch mob, to a hospital just 6 KM away. Why? They took a tea-break enroute (sic),” tweeted Rahul Gandhi.

“This is Modi’s brutal “New India” where humanity is replaced with hatred and people are crushed and left to die,” he added.

According to reports, the Alwar Police first shifted the two seized cows to a shelter instead of taking the lynching victim to the hospital. While the vehicle for cows’ shifting was being arranged, the cops even took refreshments at a nearby tea stall.

BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja even claimed that he spoke to a few eyewitnesses who told him that they saw the policemen beating Rakbar Khan.

The police denied the charge of beating the victim and said that it would look into allegations of delay in taking him to the hospital. Notably, the FIR says that police rushed to the spot and Rakbar was taken to the hospital immediately.

However, Dr Hasan at the Community Health Centre in Ramgarh, where the victim was declared dead on arrival, said that Rakbar was brought at around 4 am. This contradicts police’s claim as the incident was reported at 12:30 am and the police had reportedly arrived at the crime spot at around 12:40 am.

Rahul’s attack on the prime minister comes days after the latter, during his speech on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha, condemned mob lynching incidents and urged the states to take stringent action against perpetrators.
