As part of an initiative to boost passenger numbers and expand train capacity, the Railway authorities are planning to extend the train route to the cultural city keeping in mind the challenges the Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express is facing due to a lower number of passengers.
The new Northern Indian Railway initiative to extend the route of the train to Varanasi is expected to benefit the residents of the city by improving their connectivity with other major cities of Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut City, Moradabad, Bareilly, and Lucknow.
The Meerut-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express received a good response after it was launched but is now facing challenges due to lack of passengers. As of today, the train takes approximately 7 hours and 10 minutes to travel from Meerut to Lucknow. It covers major cities of Uttar Pradesh including Meerut City, Moradabad, Bareilly and Lucknow.
The Vande Bharat Express from Meerut City to Lucknow, with train number 22490, starts its journey at 06:35 in the morning from Meerut, finally reaching its destination at Lucknow station at 1:45 in the afternoon on the very first day. Throughout journey, the train runs along 459 kilometers, maintaining an average speed of around 64.05 km/h. During the return journey of the train, the Lucknow-Meerut Vande Bharat express with train number 22489, departs from Lucknow at 2:45 in the afternoon and arriving back at Meerut City at 10:00 in the evening.
