Naxal insurgents torched four trucks engaged in the transportation of iron ore from a mine in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, officials said Sunday. According to the police, the incident took place on late Saturday night when the trucks carrying iron ore were halted and set ablaze by Naxals on the Orchha-Narayanpur road after the drivers were asked to step out from the vehicles.
“The four trucks were carrying iron ore from the Aamdai Ghati mine, allotted to a private company. They were stopped by Naxalites near Chhota Dongar police station on Orchha-Narayanpur road”, a senior police official said.
The officer said the Naxals asked the drivers to get down from the trucks, then set the vehicles on fire and fled from the spot.
No person was reported to be injured in the incident which took place late Saturday night, the officer said, adding that after receiving information about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot but the trucks were completely gutted by the time they reached the scene.
Visuals shared on social media platforms showed the torched remains of the trucks which are completely gutted in the blaze.

Notably, Naxalites have been opposing the Aamdai Ghati mine project since long time. In the past too, Naxal militants have torched vehicles engaged in work at the site.
Chhattisgarh’s Naxalite-hit Narayanpur district comes under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, where polling will be held in the first phase of the general elections on April 19.
