New Delhi: Three persons were trapped at a coal mine in Kulti of Asansol in West Bengal at late Sunday night, stated news agency ANI. Rescue operations are currently underway at the site.

Locals claimed that the incident occurred when four people allegedly dug the mine illegally, of which three got trapped and the other one managed to escape, stated a report.

Satyabrata Sarkar, the in-charge of the mine rescue team was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “On receiving the information, Kulti police station officials along with Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) officials reached the spot and started rescue and relief work.”

As per the Eastern Coalfields officials, the mine contains poisonous methane gas, stated Sarkar adding that the three persons who are trapped in inside the mine must be in an unconscious state. Besides, the rescue team is currently trying to widen the narrow entrance to the mine, so that the trapped persons could be rescued, added the in-charge of the mine rescue team.
