20-year-old US rapper XXXTentacion, who shot to fame with consecutive hit albums was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen in South Florida.

New York, June 19: 20-year-old US rapper XXXTentacion, who shot to fame with consecutive hit albums was shot dead by an unidentified gunmen in South Florida.

As per BBC reports, he was shopping for a motorcycle in south Florida when a gunman opened fire on his vehicle. Police in Broward County said XXXTentacion aka Jahseh Onfroy, was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

According to the police, XXXTentacion was approached by two armed suspects while he was leaving the dealership. At least one of them shot him before both fled the scene in Deerfield Beach, which is nearly 69 kilometres north of Miami, in a dark-coloured SUV.

XXXTentacion was often described as one of rap’s most controversial artists and was facing domestic violence charges. A witness told celebrity news website TMZ that multiple shots rang out outside the motorcycle dealership. The rapper, who rose to fame by uploading songs to the website SoundCloud, had been hailed as a breakthrough talent. Tributes have been pouring in from hip-hop luminaries in the wake of his death.
