New Delhi: A young man attacked people with a knife in a crowded area of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, on Friday, December 19. Four people were killed and several others were injured in the attack. The attacker also threw smoke grenades to spread panic among the crowd.
Attack Began At Taipei Main Station
The attack began at Taipei Main Station, the city’s busiest railway and metro station. In the evening, when the station was very crowded, the young man threw a smoke bomb inside the station and then fled towards the nearby Zhongshan area. There, he attacked people with a knife on the street and in a shopping mall.
According to eyewitnesses, there was smoke and chaos everywhere. People were running in all directions to save their lives. People hid in nearby shops and restaurants. A resident said that the atmosphere was very frightening, and it was difficult to breathe.
Attacker Killed During Police Chase
Police chased the attacker. During the chase, he fell from a building and died. The mayor of Taipei said that one of the deceased had tried to stop the attacker inside the station.

According to the police, the attacker was 27 years old and a resident of the Taoyuan area. He had previously worked in the air force but was dismissed from his job in 2022. Officials said that he had some previous criminal cases against him. His motive for the attack is not yet clear.
