Lahore, June 6: As many as 42 passengers jumped off Virgin Atlantic plane after they heard “leave your luggage and Get out and Run” and found a threatening note in the toilet of the plane. The passengers jumped 1.2 metre from the plane after they were told to run as soon as the plane landed. The Virgin Atlantic was taking the passengers from Sydney to Albury. According to the reports, one 30-year-old man was arrested following the bomb threat in the plane.
A note was found in the bathroom that said there is a bomb on the plane that had 42 passengers on board, which turned out to be hoax. Police and emergency services carried out a search of the aircraft and found nothing.
Virgin also issued a statement following the incident which read: “Virgin Australia flight VA1174 from Sydney to Albury landed safely this morning. Due to a security incident on board police met the aircraft on arrival. One passenger is assisting police with their inquiries. The matter is now in the hands of the NSW Police.”
One passenger said that they were evacuated as soon as the plane landed at Albury Airport about 9.15 AM today. According to the passengers, the doors of the plane were “ripped off” and they were told to leave their luggage after an alleged threat was found in the toilet of the plane. “Albury police received information that a note was located on an item in the toilets of an aircraft en route to Albury,” a police statement read.
The 30-year-old passenger was arrested following the threat was found. According to the reports, he was later charged for sending documents threatening death or grievous bodily harm and give false information person/property in danger.
“People were making a few comments like “who’s been a naughty boy,” but then the air hostess started shouting. She was saying ‘evacuate, evacuate. Leave all your belongings, jump out the window,” a passenger Willett told The Daily Telegraph. “It was really scary, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to jump, but they said the police would help and catch us, which they did. There was another older woman and she looked really shaken up.”
“We were told to move and then the police started yelling ‘The man in red, the man in red’. The police tackled the man and shoved him against the fence and cuffed him. He kind of gave them a shrug, like he was saying ‘what I have I done’, but didn’t resist arrest. The police did an excellent job they were very quick and assured us afterwards. You could hear the fear in the air hostess’ voice when she yelled, but she was very calm,” said another passenger.
