New Delhi, May 13: At least 6 people have been killed and nearly 20 others injured in a suicide attack in Nangarhar’s Jalalabad City on Sunday, reported TOLO News. Nangarhar provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani informed AFP that there were two explosions near the city’s directorate of finance.

“A number of attackers had entered the building. Security forces are in the area chasing and fighting them,” he added. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Jalalabad is the capital of restive Nangarhar, which borders Pakistan. Some areas of the province are a stronghold of the Islamic State group but Taliban fighters are also active there.

More details in the incident awaited.

The attack came days after 30 people including 10 journalists were killed and wounded in a bomb blast inside a mosque in eastern Khost province that was being used as a voter registration centre.

Last month also an Islamic State suicide bomber attacked a voter registration center in Kabul, killing 60 people and wounding at least 130 others.
