Kabul: A loud explosion targeting a security agencies’ installation hit Afghanistan’s capital city Kabul Wednesday. As per TOLONews, the head of Police District 9, Bismillah Taban confirmed the attack.

According to eyewitnesses, the exchange of gunfire has been heard from the scene. “It is too early to speak about the type and exact target of the blast,” Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid said.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the blast, which sent a plume of smoke into the air.

The explosion came only hours after Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani told a UN-sponsored conference in Geneva of plans to seek a peace agreement with the Taliban.

More details are awaited.
