New Delhi, July 27: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos surpassed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to become the World’s richest man. The reports arrived after Amazon registered a 2.4 percent rise in shares leading to Bezos new repute as the rise reportedly eclipsed Gates by 700 million dollar.
Bezos owns about 17 percent of the shares in Amazon and the value has now exceeded 500 billion dollars. According to BBC for the first three months of 2017, Amazon’s sales jumped 23 per cent to 35.7 billion dollars. The Amazon founder recently ventured into the Blue Origin space rocket business and in 2013 bought the Washington Post newspaper.
According to a CNBC report, Amazon’s share price jumped by more than 15 dollar per share overnight. On Wednesday, Forbes and Bloomberg reported that Bezos’ net worth was over 89 billion dollar as of the close of markets on Wednesday. Bezos owns around 80 million shares of Amazon and with this surge will add more than 800 million dollar to his fortune.

Jeff Bezos began his journey from a garage when he sold books 22 years ago and as of today, he is the first man to overtake Gates who held the position for seven years. According to Forbes, he is the sixth man to hold the title, ‘Richest Person’ in the past 30 years.
