That Pakistan is a failed state and is dependent on agencies like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund to keep its sinking economy floating somehow is known to everyone. As Islamabad continues to lose its credibility in the world, army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is hellbent upon tightening his grip on the country relying on his ‘4A’ policy.

Experts believe that Munir is trying to establish himself as ‘Super President’ using this ‘4A’ – Army, Allah, America and Atom – policy. While Pakistan army leaders in the past have also worked on the sames lines, Munir’s emphasis on ‘Atom’ has drawn the attention of the world.

Interestingly, Munir has been touring the world trying to portray himself as representative of the civilian government – this many see as humiliation for PM Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.

In an address to Pakistani diaspora in Florida’s Tampa recently, Field Marshal Munir reportedly said that Pakistan could use its nuclear weapons to take down India and “half the world” in case his country faced an existential threat in a future war with India.

“We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us,” media reports quoted him as saying.

Responding to the remarks made by motormouth Munir, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan’s “stock-in-trade”.

“Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan’s stock-in-trade.” “The international community can draw its own conclusions on the irresponsibility inherent in such remarks, which also reinforce the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said.
