Baghdad: An Iraqi woman gave birth to seven babies – six girls and a boy – at once in a hospital on Sunday. The seven babies were delivered normally and it is believed to be the first septuplet birth in the country. As per reports, the mother and the babies are in healthy condition. The news of the septuplets’ birth went viral after the delivery and images were taken shortly.
A health department spokesperson, Firas Al Izzawi, told reporters that it was a natural birth and the 25-year-old mother was ‘perfectly healthy’ after delivering seven babies in a day. The babies’ father, Youssef Fadl, said he and his wife had no plans to expand their family, but now they must look after ten children, as per reports.
In 2018, a woman gave birth to sextuplets – three girls and three boys – at the Sait George University Hospital in Lebanon. In a surprising turn of events, Sian Williams and Aaron Palfrey gave birth to identical triplets.
“I was excited to be having one baby, but in the scan, the doctor picked up two heartbeats and then the third one. One little egg had created three miracles. The doctors told us they were identical and the odds of that happening without fertility drugs was one in 200 million,” Sian was quoted saying.
“We were completely speechless and stunned. At our 15-week scan we found out we were expecting three girls,” he added.
It must be noted that the first Kenny and Bobbi McCaughey in Iowa gave birth to septuplet in 1997. The couple had reportedly denied selective reduction, saying it was in ‘God’s hands’. The couple became so famous that the then president of the US, Bill Clinton, personally called the family. They were also hailed by legendary TV host Oprah Winfrey on her show.
