Dhaka, April 30: A 50-year-old Hindu tailor has been hacked to death by bike-borne assailants in Tangail district of Bangladesh. The cops present at the spot primarily suspected that a “derogatory” comment made by the victim in 2012 against Prophet Mohammed, might be the reason for attack.
According to reports, Nikhil Joarder, a tailor by profession was sitting in his shop in Dubail village on Saturday afternoon when two persons on a motorbike hacked him to death with sharp weapons. The incident took place at Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail at around 12:30 PM.
The police present at the spot suspect that, Nikhil was killed over religious enmity as he had made a “derogatory” remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed in 2012. According to The Daily Star, the motor borne assailants who fled from the spot, swooped on Nikhil with machetes and kept on stabbing him until he died. Aslam Khan, a senior police official of Tangail district also confirmed the incident after he reached the spot. The attackers also left a small black colour bag at the crime scene which contained three bomb-like objects. At around 3:30 PM the bomb disposal unit from Tangail was alerted to defuse the bomb.
A local police officer also confirmed that a case of sedition was filed against Nikhil in 2012 for making “derogatory” remarks against Prophet for which he was also sent to jail for more than two years. Meanwhile the body of Nikhil has been sent for autopsy at a nearby civic hospital. Further probe is on.
Another report suggest that the victim’s nice Swarna had recently divorced her husband some days ago and Nikhil had a role in their separation. Some days ago the family members of Swarna’s husband had been giving death threat to Nikhil .
