New Delhi: In a major setback to Bangladesh’s interim government, Mohammad Nahid Islam, the student leader who played a key role in ousting Sheikh Hasina from power, has resigned from the position of Advisor for Information and Broadcasting. According to the reports, Nahid has submitted his resignation to Muhammad Yunus. Nahid has stated that he made this decision to actively work on the streets rather than remain in the government.

Reports suggest that Nahid Islam was quite unhappy with the functioning of the Yunus government.Known for this outspoken nature, Nahid is likely to start his own political party. This is the reason why he made this decision before the election dates were announced.

Is Nahid the Bangladesh’s future PM?

It is important to note that the Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam showered praise on him. He even went as far as saying that Nahid could become the country’s Prime Minister in the future. Shafiqul Alam wrote on Facebook, “Nahid Islam is one of the sharpest political figures of recent times. He is just 26 years old and has already led a mass uprising against a ruthless dictator.”

He further added, “He will remain a significant figure in the country’s politics for decades to come. Allah knows, one day he might even become the Prime Minister of this country.”

Indication of Major Political Change in Bangladesh

After Shiekh Hasina was forcefully ousted as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, an interim government was formed under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus.
