But there is no need to worry as there is new job prospect that one might be look out for and that is ‘Data scientists’.

According to a staffing solutions company, TeamLease, ‘Data Scientists’ with around five years of experience are earning upto Rs 75 lakhs per annum in comparison to engineers, doctors or even chartered accountants. Though, the Harvard Business Review have in 2012 named this job as “sexiest job of the 21st century” and Glassdoor named it the “best job of the year” in 2016, there are several questions that one wants to know about the ‘Data Scientists’. First question that arises in mind is what exactly are Data Scientists and what is their work? It might seem confusing to some, but the fact is that data scientists are the people who look at the amount of data one company generates, compile all the relevant ones and use it for the development of the firm’s business using social media. The second question might arise is why companies are looking for ‘Data Researchers’? The reason for the lookout for appropriate people is the competitiveness among the companies who want to keep their research and analysis (R&A) departments up to speed and up to date.

The main catalyst that is enhancing the career opportunity is digitisation of every data online. Speaking about Indian market with TOI, co-founder and senior VP of TeamLease Services Rituparna Chakraborty said, “India will face a demand-supply gap of 2,00,000 analytic professionals over the next three years. Even in the US, only 40 out of 100 positions for analytics professionals can be filled.”

As per reports, data scientists in United States get upwards of $2,00,000 per annum. So the last question would be what is the criteria for being a ‘Data Scientist’? As per to the experts, the data analytic professionals can be from any field, but the preferred qualifications seems to be mathematicians, statisticians, database/data warehouse engineers, data miners and IT professionals with data warehousing skills.

To meet their requirements, some companies have even come with unique programmes. A business process management industry WNS has created a fully funded post-graduate MBA programme in business analytic which has been customised according to its requirements. The firm also announces that it would absorb all the students into their firm. Now, as the competition is growing at a rapid rate and there are lack of jobs, one could try for an alternative career prospect that would certainly enlighten one’s future.
