Pakistan Nuclear Ballistic Missile Program: On one hand, while the condition of Pakistan is already bad, the United States has also taken a big action. America has hammered Pakistan’s nuclear missile program. The US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security has included more than a dozen Pakistani companies in its watch list due to their involvement in unsafe nuclear activities. Companies included in the watch list are considered a threat to America’s national security and foreign policy.
Pakistan also responded
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also reacted in this matter. The Foreign Ministry has called this move of America inappropriate. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that this move of America will affect Pakistan’s economic development. Meanwhile, it should also be mentioned here that seven other companies have also faced sanctions for helping Pakistan’s ballistic missile program.
Pakistani companies were punished
It is worth noting that the US has taken this step when changes have been made in the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) recently. This move of the US will affect 70 companies from China, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa and UAE. The Pakistani companies added to the list for nuclear related activities include Britlite Engineering, Intentech International, Intralink Incorporated, Proc Master, Rehman Engineering and Services and others. The US says that the companies against which action has been taken are working against its national security or foreign policy.
America has taken action before
This is not the first time that the US has taken such action. Earlier in December, the US government had also imposed sanctions on Pakistan’s National Development Complex and three commercial entities based in Karachi. These included Akhtar and Sons Private Limited, Affiliates International and Rockside Enterprises.
