The blast took place on Wednesday morning near the Data Darbar and is believed to have targeted the security personnel guarding the shrine. Initial reports suggest that a police vehicle was the target of the explosion. Three police officials died in the blast, a security guard and a resident were also among the dead, Deputy Inspector General Operations Lahore Ashfaq Ahmad Khan was quoted as saying by the Geo News.

The entry to the shrine has been sealed and the area around it cordoned off.
