New Delhi: Britain will deport an illegal Indian immigrant to India for the first time under its new immigration law and an agreement with France. The British Home Office stated that the man had entered Britain illegally in August by crossing the English Channel in a small boat.
British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood described this as a major step towards preventing illegal immigration. She said, “This is the beginning of securing our borders. Those who enter illegally will be sent back.”
The British government will provide this man with money to return to India. If he does not go willingly, he may be forcibly deported. He cannot seek asylum in the United Kingdom. This action comes just two days after US President Trump had called for the British government to use the military to stop illegal immigration.
The UK and France have reached a new agreement called “one-in, one-out.” This rule began on August 6, 2025, and will last until June 2026. Its purpose is to prevent people from illegally crossing the English Channel in small boats to reach the UK.
Those who enter the UK illegally in small boats will be apprehended and sent back to France. After deporting illegal immigrants to France, the UK will accept a person from France who has not entered illegally and has a valid reason for staying in the UK.
The purpose of this rule is to stop human trafficking gangs and eliminate dangerous sea voyages. The UK and France want people to enter through safe and legal routes.
Two days ago, US President Donald Trump told British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that if necessary, use the military to stop illegal immigrants. At a joint press conference in London on Thursday, September 18, Trump said that illegal immigrants destroy the country from within.
Citing his own policies, Trump said that millions of people were previously entering the United States illegally, but his policies stopped it. Trump claimed that not a single person has entered the United States illegally in the last three months, compared to millions previously.
