China nuclear weapons: The Pentagon has released its annual report on China’s military preparedness, revealing shocking details about how Beijing may be preparing for a major war as the country is rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal and other wartime capabilities.

According to the Pentagon report, China is rapidly stockpiling nuclear weapons, and currently the country has 600 operational nuclear bombs, compared to 500 in the year 2023. The report warns that China intends to increase its nuclear stockpile to 1,000 by 2030 and surpass the United States’ tally of operational nuclear bombs by 2035.

The report further revealed that China currently has around 400 long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that can reach the US, while its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) possesses 1,300 nuclear-capable medium-range missiles that can be used against countries like India, Philippines, and Japan.

China has also built three new silos to store its nuclear weapons, and has 550 ICBM launchers, the report says, adding that Beijing has added 50 launcher and the same number of ICBMs– designed to reach the US– in the past one year. As per the report, Beijing now has more ICBM launchers than the US, and has increased the number of its DF-31A ICBM and DF-5 liquid fuel missiles.

The Pentagon report notes that China is not only increasing the number of its nuclear weapons but also diversifying them and making vigorous efforts to make its nukes more lethal.

Largest navy in the world

The Pentagon notes that China’s navy is the largest in the world and continues to grow at a furious pace, currently boasting a fleet of 6 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, 6 nuclear-powered attack submarines and 48 diesel-powered submarines equipped with AIP technology.

According to the report, China could increase their submarine fleet to 65 by the end of next year and 80 by the year 2035, ensuring China’s naval supremacy remains unchallenged in the near future, especially in the South China Sea, which it has started occupying recently.

The report further reveals that China is constructing artificial islands and allegedly threatening its neighbors Philippines and Japan, and also intends to occupy Taiwan in the near future, which would mean an inevitable conflict with the United States.

China currently has 370 warships and the number will reach 395 by the end of 2025 and 435 warships by the year 2030, the report says.

It further adds that China’s Air Force, though not at par with the US Air Force (USAF), is also undergoing a rapid transformation, incorporating new advanced fighter jets and military drones in its ranks.
