New Delhi: Hours after banning the gatherings of more than two people in the country, the government spokesperson of German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday said that Merkel will quarantine herself at home after being treated by a doctor who has tested positive for COVID-19. “The Chancellor has decided to quarantine herself at home. She will be tested regularly in the coming days (and) fulfil her official business from home,” Steffen Seibert said in a statement. Also Read - Angela Merkel's Successor as German Chancellor Steps Down as Party Chief



Earlier in the day, Merkel had said that gatherings of more than two people will be banned in public to control the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

“Our own behaviour is the most effective way of slowing the rate of infection,” Merkel had said of the unprecedented nationwide measures.
