Pyongyang, July 4: The United States President Donald Trump has once again nudged China to act against North Korea after the communist country allegedly fired a missile in Japanese waters. The US President had mentioned about China’s role in reining in North Korea when he made a joint statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.
“North Korea has just launched another missile. Does this guy have anything better to do with his life? Hard to believe that South Korea and Japan will put up with this much longer. Perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all,” he wrote on Twitter.
According to Al Jazeera, officials in South Korea and Japan said that North Korea launched a ballistic missile from 00:40 GMT from Banghyon and flew 940 km to come down in the Sea of Japan. Japanese official told the news channel that the missile landed in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The Japanese leadership said that the missile flew for 40 minutes.
Japan said that such an act cannot be tolerated and it had protested to North Korea about the provocation.
“Once again, North Korea pushed ahead with a missile launch. That showed [Pyongyang] has ignored repeated warnings from the international community,” Japanese PM Shinzo Abe told reporters which the channel quoted.
US President Donald Trump is a vocal critic of China’s close ties with North Korea. North Korea and China are strategic and trade partners. China buys minerals and coal from the country. The missile launch comes as US, China, Japan and South Korea will discuss efforts to control North Korea– that is carrying out repeated nuclear and missile tests– at the G20 summit in Hamburg on July 7 to 8.
