Washington: White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt revealed that former US President Joe Biden had allocated a fortune for condoms in the Palestinian territory of Gaza. Leavitt has also criticized the foreign aid management of the previous Biden administration. Leavitt stated on Tuesday, “American taxpayers’ $50 million (approximately 4,32,94,99,130 Indian Rupees) were set to be spent on condoms in Gaza.”
The Donald Trump administration halted all foreign aid until a reassessment is conducted. This includes stopping millions of dollars in US funding for condoms in Gaza.
Trump Administration Calls It Waste of Taxpayers’ Money
Citing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget, Leavitt said, “This is an absurd waste of taxpayers’ money.” He added that the government is focusing on becoming a better steward of the U.S. dollar. This was the first White House press briefing since President Donald Trump took office.
Elon Musk Raised Questions
DOGE chief Elon Musk expressed his skepticism over the massive release of funds. In a post on X, he stated, “My guess is that a lot of that money went into Hamas’ pockets rather than condoms.” He further added, “Yes, even in the unlikely event that the money was actually spent on condoms, we shouldn’t be sending American taxpayers’ money to buy condoms for foreigners.”
