Dresses like ISIS, guns in hand: Is Bangladesh becoming another...? Taslima Nasreen makes shocking claims
Hatred towards Hindus is not new in neighbouring Bangladesh, but the recent incidents have shaken the country. Shocking pictures have surfaced on social media platforms from Bangladesh, raising questions about a growing fascination with ISIS. The incident took place in Jessore’s Jamia Islamia Madrasa during a cultural program where a cleric instructed students on what to wear. The viral images showcased students dressed like ISIS militants, holding guns. Reacting to the incident, famous Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin shared a post featuring children posing with toy guns and remarked that they might one day wield real weapons. The viral image on social media led to speculations about whether Bangladesh is heading toward becoming another Syria.
Several famous people who love Bangladesh have shared the post on social media, showing masked men in black giving fiery speeches from a stage, flanked by two others armed with guns.
Allegedly, a call for jihad was made in Jessore district. A user shared it on X, highlighting that Islamic militants are openly brandishing lethal automatic rifles at the Jamia Islamia Madrasa in Jessore, where Bangladeshi Hindus live alongside these extremists.
What Does Taslima Nasrin Said
Sharing the video, Taslima Nasrin described students at a Ramnagar madrasa performing a cultural drama during their annual function. She said that they were dressed as Islamic militants, loudly reciting Quranic verses supporting jihad and waving guns (toys). The author warned that these toy guns could one day be real. The video was also criticized by Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed.

Another clip featured children dressed as militants brandishing guns during the program. She commented that these madrasas in Bangladesh teach jihad, where children dressed as terrorists wield toy guns, swords, and grenades. She feared they might grow up to use real weapons to target unbelievers, atheists, and those who defy Islamic law, aiming to transform the world into “Darul-Islam,” or a world governed by Islam.
Madrasa Issued Clarification
As the video went viral on the internet, Mufti Lutfur Rahman Farooqi, the head of Jessore Jamia Islamia Madrasa, clarified that it was a cultural program titled “Go as You Like.”
He said that the Arabic speeches did not contain extremist content and that the weapons in the students’ hands were toys. Jessore Police’s Additional Superintendent of Police Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui denied any connection between the video and terrorism.
