Eid ul-Fitr 2025 Moon Sighting: The Eid moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia hence Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated in the kingdom on Sunday, March 30. Muslims across the world have been waiting for the confirmation of whether the Eid Crescent would be sighted today, Saturday, 29 March 2025 or not, especially in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
It all depends on the sighting of the crescent moon that is searched for by the observers and researchers after the Maghrib namaz which is offered after breaking the roza (fast).
Since Islam follows the lunar calendar (based on the moon) the dates of the starting of the holy month of Ramadan and the spotting of the ‘Eid ka Chaand’ (Eid Moon) differ depending on the geography, location, sea level, altitude, and other factors like clouds.
A large number of Muslims wait for Saudi Arabia’s announcement for Eid, which is home to the holiest sites of Islam, Mecca and Medina. This time too, the date for Eid in Saudi Arabia will be declared depending on the moon sighting.
The Eid-ul-Fitr moon sighting marks the last day of the month of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, the day on which Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated.
In Saudi Arabia, more than 20 observatories were set up to spot the Shawwal crescent/Eid moon.
Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, the Emirati astronomer and Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, as well as a member of the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy, told Gulf News that precise astronomical calculations indicate the impossibility of sighting the Shawwal crescent after sunset on March 29, 2025, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1446 AH.
