Warsaw: The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, has announced army training for all adult men in the country. The Polish government is working on a large-scale military training plan in light of the changing security situation in Europe. Tusk has stated that his country needs an army of five hundred thousand soldiers. Security concerns have increased in Europe since Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Europe feels that the Russian attack could extend beyond Ukraine to other countries.
On the other hand, Donald Trump is threatening to not provide security to Europe. This is rapidly increasing anxiety in Europe.
Poland’s PM Tusk said in the country’s parliament on Friday, March 7, “We are working to prepare a model by the end of this year. This will train every adult male in Poland to be ready for a state of war. This will give us a large number of reserve soldiers. This reserve will work to address any potential threats.”
Complete information about this plan from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will be provided in the coming months. Tusk has also set a goal to increase the size of the Polish army. Currently, Poland’s army is 200,000 strong, Tusk wants to increase it to 500,000, including reservists. A large number of women in Poland have also been given increased military training. Poland has also planned to raise its defense budget to 5 percent of GDP.
The aim of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s plan is to address the security threats arising from the Russia-Ukraine war. The Russia-Ukraine war has heightened Poland’s security concerns. Tusk emphasized the need to strengthen the Polish army, citing the size of the Ukrainian and Russian forces as an example. He stated that the size of the Polish army is quite small and should increase.
Poland has also increased its arms purchases from the United States and South Korea, including 250 M1A2 Abrams battle tanks, 32 F-35 jets, 96 Apache helicopters, Javelin missiles, and artillery rocket systems. Poland has made a deal with South Korea to purchase K2 tanks and FA-50 light combat aircraft.
The Polish government is also considering France’s proposal to include Europe under its nuclear security umbrella. Tusk also mentioned that his country should acquire its own nuclear weapons, stating that if we had our own nuclear arsenal, we would be much safer.
