A video clip circulating online on Wednesday claimed that Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, had said that Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir “wants a war with India” while her brother had tried to maintain friendly ties with India and even the BJP. The clip appeared to show Aleema making these remarks during an episode of The World with Yalda Hakim on Sky News. However, the network later confirmed that the video was fake and created using deepfake technology.
Sky News flagged the entire clip as a deepfake. Journalist Yalda Hakim also issued a clarification on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “This is terrifying — a deepfake of my interview with Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, is circulating. It falsely claims we discussed the Pakistan-India war earlier this year. We did NOT. This clip is completely fake.”

In the manipulated video, interviewer Yalda Hakim is heard asking Aleema Khan about the supposed reason behind an India–Pakistan war in May. The deepfake then shows “Aleema” making harsh remarks about Pakistan’s Army Chief and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Asim Munir.
The fake clip portrays her calling Munir “a radicalised Islamist and Islamic conservatist,” claiming that he “yearns for a war with India” and is driven by “Islamic radicalisation and conservatism” to fight those “who don’t believe in Islam.”
The deepfake also fabricates statements comparing Imran Khan and Asim Munir. It falsely shows Aleema calling Imran Khan a “pure liberal” and saying he always tried to “befriend India and even the BJP” whenever he was in power. According to the fake clip, she allegedly claims that under Munir, there would be war “not just with India but also with India’s allies.”
The video further depicts her appealing to Western countries to push for Imran Khan’s release, describing him as an “asset.”
The deepfake also fabricates a conversation about the cases against Imran Khan. When asked whether he would ever be released, the manipulated clip shows Aleema claiming that Pakistani authorities were isolating him to “suppress the people of Pakistan.” She is falsely shown saying that Khan “represents 90% of the country” and that officials jailed him believing people would “forget him.”
Sky News and Yalda Hakim later confirmed that the entire video was artificial and that none of these statements were ever made.
