Islamabad, Aug 3: Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief and UN designated terrorist Hafiz Saeed has decided to rename his terror outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) as the Milli Muslim League Pakistan. According to reports, Hafiz Saeed will register the Milli Muslim League Pakistan as a political party with the Election Commission of Pakistan. In Pakistan, social media is flooded with posters regarding launch of Milli Muslim League Pakistan by Hafiz Saeed. “Hamari Siyasat, Khidmat Insaniyat (Our politics is for serving humanity)” reads one of the posters of Milli Muslim League Pakistan.
The development assumes significance in the wake of the ouster of Nawaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of Pakistan after Supreme Court found him guilty in Panama Papers scandal. Incidentally, Nawaz Sharif’s main opponent and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf chief Imran Khan has landed in a controversy after a female party colleague accused him of sending obscene messages.
In February, a report, authored by James M Dorsey of the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies and Azaz Syed, a prominent Pakistani journalist, claimed Hafiz Saeed was planning to register Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) as a political party. The move is aimed at preventing the cadre of the organisation from joining other terror groups such as the Islamic State or ISIS, the report had said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani authorities have extended by two more months the house arrest of Hafiz Saeed. The Mumbai terror attack mastermind placed under house arrest on January 30 in Lahore. The JuD chief is under UN sanction and carries a bounty of $10 million.
