Washington: Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris offered her campaign’s closing argument on Tuesday from the Ellipse, near capitol grounds. She expressed pride of being the vice president under Joe Biden’s presidency, Harris emphasized that her presidency will be different as the nation has new challenges nowadays. 

In her address, Harris called herself a “uniter”, an advocate of the working people and a fierce protector and voiced her opposition to policies favoring the wealthy, contrasting herself with former President Donald Trump who she called as a “divider” and accused him of being “vulnerable to flattery and favours”.

“I have been honoured to serve as Joe Biden’s Vice President,” Harris said, “but I will bring my own experiences and ideas to the Oval Office. My presidency will be different, because the challenges we face are different. Our top priority as a nation four years ago was to end the pandemic and rescue the economy. Now our biggest challenge is to lower costs, costs that were rising even before the pandemic, and that are still too high”.

Though, Trump and his campaign have sought Harris to the failures and shortcomings of the administration of Biden. She has struggled to distance herself from the President without looking disloyal. Harris has made few appearances with the former President Barack Obama.

In a nearly 30 minute speech, Kamala Harris contrasted her values and missions with Trump’s approach of handling social issues. She raised concern that the world leaders see Donald Trump as an “easy mark, easy to manipulate with flattery or favour” adding that autocrats like Russian  President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong (Un) are rooting for him in this election. She promised to uphold security, advance national interest and ensure that the United States of America will be forever a champion of liberty around the world.
