US-Iran peace talks: In a major development concerning the US-Iran relations, the second round of talks has been called off, according to reports. This comes after the Iranian delegation left Islamabad without meeting the team of the US. The delegation of Iran, led by the foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, departed on April 25 after high-level meetings were held with the leaders of Pakistan. This development is being seen as a major setback on Islamabad's side as it tried to act as a mediator.
Reason for the Iranian delegation to leave Islamabad
According to reports, the Iranian delegation had shown its unreadiness to meet the US officials, who had arrived from Washington. It's because Tehran continues to pressure the US to end the blockade on the Hormuz region.
"Prospects for the resumption of the second round of U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad today are rapidly fading, as Tehran is still not ready to meet the U.S. delegation, which was expected to arrive late tonight from Washington. Iran continues to insist that the Americans end their blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a precondition for opening the second round of negotiations," stated Kamran Khan, chairman of Pakistan-based news outlet ARY News, citing informed sources.
In addition, the delegation provided an "official list of demands" to the leaders of Pakistan for the US and Israel to arrive at a proper solution in the ongoing conflict, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Talks fail to happen in Islamabad
According to reports, the meeting between the US and Iran did not happen. From this side of the US, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner were expected to manage the negotiations.

High-level meetings
Before leaving, the Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, met Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The top officials, like Army Chief Asim Munir and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, were also a part.
