Imran Khan Takes Oath as Pakistan’s Prime Minister

The oath-taking ceremony started at 10:10 AM after Khan arrived at the President House. The swearing-in ceremony began with the national anthem and was followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran, after which Khan took the oath as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Islamabad, Aug 18: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Saturday took oath as the Prime Minister of the country at the President House in Islamabad. The cricketer-turned-politician was administered the oath by President Mamnoon Hussain.

The oath-taking ceremony started at 10:10 AM after Khan arrived at the President House. The swearing-in ceremony began with the national anthem and was followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran, after which Khan took the oath as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan. While being sworn-in as Pak’s PM, Khan fumbled during his speech. The signing of oath documents will commence after the oath.

Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, Wasim Akram, actor Javed Sheikh, Punjab governor designate Chaudhry Sarwar, Punjab Assembly speaker Pervez Elahi, Ramiz Raja, caretaker prime minister Nasir-ul-Mulk and other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders were present during the oath-taking ceremony.

Also in attendance, were Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Zubair Mahmood Hayat and Chief of Air Staff Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan.

At least 176 members of the National Assembly voted in favour of Khan, while his opponent, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, received a total of 96 votes which led to Khan winning the coveted post. After the cricketer-turned-politician was elected as new Pak PM, he vowed to bring about a sea of changes which the country and take actions against those involved in looting the nation.

Khan had said, “I am grateful to the Almighty Allah and the nation for giving me the opportunity to bring a change which the nation wanted. The nation was longing for the change we will bring. I promise my nation that I will do strict accountability. No robber would be given an NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance).”
