Not every country in the world has its own army. While many nations do have their own military forces some are exceptions. Today, let’s talk about one such country whose air security is fully managed by the Indian Air Force. In general for a country having its own army, navy, and air force is very important because a strong military protects the country from attacks and helps maintain national security. But what happens when a country has no air force or navy at all? Let’s find out how India helps protect this small neighbouring nation.
That’s exactly the case with Bhutan, a small, peaceful country located in the mountains, completely surrounded by hills. It shares its border with India and has never been ruled by any powerful empire in history. Bhutan is not only independent but also deeply connected to India, especially when it comes to defence.
Although Bhutan has its own army, called the Royal Bhutan Army, it doesn’t have a navy (because it’s a landlocked country with no sea) or an air force. For its military training, Bhutan depends on India, and the Indian Army helps train its troops.
But what’s more interesting is that when it comes to air defence, Bhutan completely depends on the Indian Air Force. If there is ever any threat from the sky, it is India’s fighter jets and air personnel that step in to protect Bhutan.
So, while Bhutan is a sovereign country with its own government and army, its sky is guarded by India—a special relationship based on trust, friendship, and cooperation.
