Why Indian Army ordered condoms during 1971 Bangladesh liberation war: Numerous tales about the bravery of Indian soldiers are told across India but one story from the 1971 war with Pakistan often finds a miss. During the Bangladesh liberation war, various reports say that the Indian Navy ordered hundreds of condoms for reasons that are unique. Rather than conventional use, the condoms were ordered for a crucial use in a strategic operation. Here are the details regarding why the Indian army ordered condoms during the war with Pakistan.

India ordered condoms during 1971 war

During the 1971 war with the Pakistani army, the enemy targeted the Indian airbase resulting in retaliatory attack on Indian Navy from many fronts. It led to a situation where the Indian army and the Indian Navy had to use condoms for tactical purposes. Therefore, this was the story of how these condoms played a major role in targeting Pakistani ships through naval mines .

Chittagong port Conflict

As the story unfolds, the war front of Chittagong port in East Pakistan’s (present-day Bangladesh) was the place where the incident took place. During the conflict with Pakistan, Indian soldiers planned to target Pakistani ships by blowing them up. However, the limpet mine used at that time had to be placed under the ship and would explode within 30 minutes.

In a process to counter its enemy, the Indian Navy ordered hundreds of condoms in order to solve this problem and defeat its enemy during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Using the condoms as a part of the tactics, they were placed over the limpet mine, so that the mine could remain safe in the water and explode only in time, as per a report by ABP Live.
